The Lakeview Fire Truck Pull is back, and we’re excited to once again pull in honor of River Lou Opper while raising critical funds for pediatric cancer research.
The event began in 2024 after Travis and Madalynn Opper lost their daughter, River Lou, to Rhabdomyosarcoma, in November of 2023. Rather than allowing heartbreak to define her, Madalynn turned her grief into purpose by becoming a Curing Kids Cancer ambassador and bringing the Fire Truck Pull to her hometown of Lakeview, Michigan.
Over the past two years, the event has grown into a beloved community tradition, raising more than $58,000 so far to support innovative childhood cancer research. Today, Madalynn continues that mission as Curing Kids Cancer’s Program Specialist, sharing the story behind the event and inspiring others to get involved. Recently, she discussed the Lakeview Fire Truck Pull during a local podcast interview and in a special appearance on FOX 17, where she shared some of her favorite moments from the event and what makes it so meaningful.
This year’s Fire Truck Pull will feature a new location in downtown Lakeview and an earlier date, but the mission remains the same: honoring children like River Lou while funding research to help create better treatments for kids facing cancer.
