College football teams "Blow the Whistle on Kids Cancer" in September

SEC college football coaches are huddling with Curing Kids Cancer to make fans aware that September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Coaches will wear Curing Kids Cancer lanyards with gold whistles and wristbands during at least one home game in September while players will wear Curing Kids Cancer wristbands and helmet stickers.

"By supporting this event, college football teams and coaches are helping Curing Kids Cancer to save children's lives," said Grainne Owen, founder of Curing Kids Cancer.

The following teams are confirmed for the 2015 "Blow the Whistle on Kids Cancer!" campaign:

September 12 at the University of South Carolina vs. Kentucky

September 12 Louisiana State University at Mississippi State

September 19 at the University of Georgia vs. the University of South CarolinaBoth teams participating!

September 19 at Vanderbilt University vs. Austin Peay

September 19 at Alabama vs. Ole Miss

September 19 at Mississippi State vs. Northwestern State

September 19 at University of Tennessee vs. Western Carolina

September 26 at Texas A&M vs. Arkansas

ESPN GameDay Commentator Lee Corso says, "As Chairman of Coaches Curing Kids Cancer, I'm very happy to see so many college football coaches and players stepping up to raise awareness about childhood cancer. It's fantastic that so many teams supporting this great cause. We all want to tackle kids' cancer and make it a thing of the past."

A donation will be made to the following hospitals in honor of the SEC teams that are participating in the "Blow the Whistle on Kids Cancer!" campaign:

  • University of South Carolina - Palmetto Health's Children's Hospital
  • Mississippi State - University of Mississippi Medical Center
  • University of Georgia - Children's Healthcare of Atlanta
  • Vanderbilt University - Vanderbilt Children's Hospital (Monroe Carrell, Jr. Children's Hospital)
  • Alabama - Children's of Alabama
  • Texas A&M - Texas Children's Hospital and UT Southwestern
  • Louisiana State University - Louisiana State University Medical Center Department of Pediatrics
